Inspired by the great Leica original, the Type D is a wrist strap that is sturdy enough to be used on both 35mm, digital and medium format cameras. It has a buckle and keeper to allow the adjustment of the tightness of the strap around your wrist.

It will fit any camera with a tripod socket. With the fine adjustment available in the strap, it is possible to tune the amount of tension when using this strap as an accessory brace to hold the camera steadier for slow speed hand held shots. This was one of the main reasons Leica offered this strap.

And... if you have a Leica without strap lugs, you will find this strap very useful! This support of a camera without lugs combined with the ability this strap offers to brace the camera for slow speed shooting is what the original Leica TROOV (their product code name) was made for.

You will see a picture of the original Leica catalogue entry for the TROOV. The text translates as 'The Leica allows for a particularly steady camera position when looped around the left wrist for horizontal shots. The strap length is adjustable'

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LEATHER, METAL PLATE AND FINISH ON THE RIVETS WILL ALL WEAR WITH USE - JUST AS ON THE ORIGINAL STRAPS. WE LOVE THE WAY THIS PATINA DEVELOPS WE HOPE YOU WILL, TOO.

A note on our nickel plated split rings - to the credit of quality manufacturers like Nikon and Leica, who knew that their products were going to get a real workout in the hands of professionals, both manufacturers (and plenty of others - Pentax for example) made sure that they got things right with controlling the wear on their camera lugs.

The engineering logic behind the Nikon and Leica lugs relies on relative material hardness. The lugs are hard chromium plated and because chromium sits much higher on the Mohs hardness scale than the nickel plating and the underlying tempered spring steel used on the original Nikon and Leica split rings (and on our own at The Strapateer) the intention is that the rings act as the sacrificial wear component, slowly wearing away their nickel plating against the much more resilient hard chrome of the camera lug... Which should last for many years.

...Leica did not always get things right however; black paint Leica M2 and M3 cameras came with black painted lugs - with no hard chrome to protect the brass lugs... Consequently, these painted lugs wore out faster than the standard hard chrome versions. It is interesting to note that by the time Leica started making the black paint M4, the company went back to supplying the camera with hard chrome lugs.
